Gabrielle Aplin Facts
She was raised in Chippenham in Wiltshire.
Her parents bought her a guitar when she was 11 years old.
Gabrielle has recalled that she has always enjoyed music naturally from her childhood. She had originally wanted to be a translator, so, when she was in 2nd form college, she had tried it out for about a week but discovered that she disliked it. She also found it hard to continue in the school system and dropped out. Gabrielle then enrolled in a music production course and thought that she was going to be a songwriter having fun thinking herself to be writing for people or maybe doing something like publishing. She had then started to get opportunities for her own songs and had decided to go along with the flow.
Gabrielle has affirmed the best part about having a life in music to be the fact that she can be creative and be able to pay her rent by doing what she enjoys the most. She has considered herself to be incredibly lucky that her job has involved writing songs and she has been totally aware of her privilege.
She has disclosed a funny experience she had encountered once when she was in Tokyo. A journalist had come in and she had asked if he would need a translator when he had totally denied the requirement pointing out that he is fluent in English. However, she had noticed that he spoke minimal English but he was insistent and so she agreed to sit for an interview. It was going well when suddenly he had asked her to talk about her music describing it with a swear word. She had felt alarmed but puzzled too when the translator had finally helped out explaining he had only meant “folk music” and she has giggled about it for ages.
